Florastor is the latest probiotic wonder to hit the shelves. It is developed from a tropical strain
of yeast that was originally isolated by French scientist, Henri Boulard, from mangosteen and
lychee fruit in 1923. It is a probiotic that offers nutritional support for anyone suffering from a
lack of balance in intestinal flora, chronic yeast growth, reactions to certain foods, a delicate
digestive system or any other issue associated with damaging bacterium.
Protective Barrier Anyone new to the wonders of
probiotics such as Florastor should first learn a little about how our digestive system works. In
our bodies, there is a wall of bacteria known as “flora” found in the intestine.
This wall protects the intestine from entering which might be damaging. However, this bacterial
wall may be affected by antibiotics, food sensitivity, too many or too few digestive enzymes and
organisms linked to disease. Such changes to the friendly bacteria - normal and necessary bacteria
- known as dysbiosis - can produce intestinal problems and lead to diseases.
Maintaining
Defenses Florastor is an invaluable tool in the rebuilding of a healthy
intestinal flora population. Because Florastor is able to normalize the metabolic function and
rebuild the safeguarding wall of intestinal flora, it is known as a floromimetic.
Florastor can activate the creation and release of the antibodies that are vital in fighting
against unwanted invaders such as bacteria and viruses. Florastor can aid in decreasing the
instances of diarrhea from a range of causes such as prescribed medication, food sensitivity,
stressors and overseas travel.
Acute
diarrhea Florastor fights against many of the causes of acute and infectious
diarrhea. Studies have found that Florastor provides a significant reduction in symptoms of
diarrhea in adults. Austrian vacationers taking Florastor while traveling around the world were
found to have significantly fewer occurrences of travelers' diarrhea than those not taking it.
Sufferers should take 250 mg of Florastor twice a day for five days until symptoms are gone.
Studies have also found that the more Florastor taken before a trip, starting five days before
leaving, the greater the reported reduction rate in diarrhea. The suggested dosage is one 250 mg
capsule or sachet per day.
In children, two studies have shown a marked decrease in the symptoms of acute gastroenteritis by
taking Florastor. Children over three months should, over five days, receive two doses of 250 mg a
day to treat acute diarrhea. Children under three months should, over five days, take half a 250 mg
capsule twice daily.
Antibiotic-associated
Diarrhea Antibiotics are undoubtedly one of the greatest medicines to appear in
the 20th century. However, antibiotics are so good at what they do that they destroy both the bad
and good bacteria living in the intestine. This can result in diarrhea. To decrease the chances of
antibiotic-associated diarrhea, many doctors suggest supplementing the drug with Florastor. This is
because the micro-organisms in Florastor are resistant to antibiotics.
Clostridium Difficile
Diarrhea C. Diff. Diarrhea, as it is more commonly known, is a damaging form of
antibiotic-associated diarrhea. When a course of antibiotics results in the destruction of
competing good bacteria, negative bacteria can invade and flourish in the unprotected intestine.
These bacteria may cause toxins to be released which can have serious consequences.
Studies have found that, when taken with one of two antibiotics (metronidazole or vancomycin), the
administration of two 500 mg doses of Florastor per day reduced the rate at which the C. diff.
infection occurred.
Great for Kids
Unlike many probiotics, Florastor can provide diarrheic relief for children as young as 12 months.
Florastor Kids is available in ten great-tasting fruit-flavored sachets of 250 mg. Florastor Kids
works because of the unique probiotics it contains. These encourage healthy flora, destroy
bacterial toxins, and thereby decrease the chance of infection.
For adults, Florastor 250 mg is available in either 10 or 50 capsule packs. One capsule of
Florastor contains 5 x 109 CFU (250 mg) of Saccharomyces boulardii. This strain exists as a freeze
dried powder.
A capsule also contains 32.50 mg of lactose monohydrate. Despite this apparent worry for those
sensitive to lactose, there have been many positive reports from lactose and dairy-sensitive
consumers of Florastor.
Florastor doesn’t have to be taken in capsule form. It can be opened up and mixed with food or
liquid for an alternative. Both Florastor 250 mg capsules and Florastor Kids 250 mg sachets contain
the same dosage of 250 mg. As there are no animal products in Florastor, it is suitable for those
following a vegetarian diet.
